If you’re interested in the out-of-the-ordinary — paranormal activity, mysterious creatures or psychic phenomena — then two upcoming events in Visalia might be of interest. Here’s a look at both of these out-of-this-world events:
Bigfoot/Paranormal Symposium
Bigfoot may be closer to Tulare County than you think.
That’s if you believe David Raygoza, a high school principal from Fresno.
The independent Bigfoot researcher is organizing the fourth annual Bigfoot/Paranormal Symposium on Saturday at Fatte Albert’s Pizza in Visalia to give locals a chance to learn about the mythical ape-like creature, along with UFOs and the paranormal.
The event has previously been held in Hanford. It’s the first time the event is being held in Visalia.
“We know that in the Sequoias and Sierras there have been sightings over the years of Bigfoot. We want to give the community and the people of this area an opportunity to listen to firsthand stories regarding Bigfoot and also about some UFO sightings in the area,” he said. “We want to allow folks an opportunity to tell their stories. A lot of people just want to tell somebody without being ridiculed.”
The search for the 8-foot-tall Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, began about 20 years ago after he came across 18-inch footprints in the Sierra near Fresno that the then-science teacher couldn’t identify.
Since then, Raygoza has recorded numerous videos and found footprints that he says belong to Bigfoot. Most of his evidence has come from the Sequoia National Park and the Sequoia National Forest.
Raygoza has been working in an undisclosed area of the forest for the past eight years. In that time, he’s had three encounters.
“The forest rangers would stop me because they saw my camouflage and they thought I was hunting out of season,” he said. “Now they’ve gotten to know me and I’ve shown them photographs I’ve gotten over the years and their chuckles have stopped. Now they’re very respectful and listen to what I have to say.”
The closest of the encounters with Bigfoot happened about 60 yards away. While Raygoza wasn’t able to capture any footage of the encounter, he says he felt really good being able to see something so special.
